The warm weather is finally here almost all over the country and the time has come to venture into those ‘should have’ done last year projects and get a cracking on them this weekend. We all know too well that after years a wooden deck looks old and worn down, its lost it shine and elegance and no one seems to compliment your beautiful backyard anymore. Lets try and figure out a way to redesign the deck without throwing a ton of money into it.
Deck Boards
Well if the deck boards are old and drab you could simply reface the deck. If the decking foundation and footing are still in great shape, this is a awes me alternative to a total redesign. Simply rip off the old decking and stop into Great Railing and see what sales we are having. Explain to the sales people you are only refacing your deck and they will be more than happy to help you out. But wait…
You also need railings. The first thing people really see when they step on a deck in the railing system, railing can be cheap or could be very expensive for your pocket. But lets stay cheap, if you get the basic deck but think out side of the box you can get a truly elegant union between your deck and railing. Think two tone everyone; maybe a top rail in black or brown? Spindles in white and bottoms rail in white as well. This simply black top creates a finished line. Instead of spindles use the glass spindles, mix and mingle your materials a tad bit. Do not over do it or it could mishmoshed.
Insets are in this year, Great Railing has some in our showroom to show you. But they are easy to make yourself out of deck, just choose a second color deck. Lets do the main deck in a khaki, but surround the deck by two boards in a mocha walnut. Add an inset in the middle of a perfectly mitered mocha walnut diamond shape. The top it off with a simple square vinyl railing except use tan spindles and khaki top rail, bottom rail and posts.
Lighting
Lighting can be on the posts or even on the stairs. These are called accessories and they spruce up an already deck or illuminate that brand new deck. Lighting can come in all sizes and colors as well, so make sure you experiment with the colors as well. Maybe adding the new Aurora Black Saturn light to each post screams proudly “I have conquered!”
